Chinese communities are spread across the world, and overseas Chinese everywhere carry unspoken struggles.
In Thailand, many have chosen to channel these emotions into literature — expressing their voices through poetry.
For this semester’s Second Foreign Language Lecture, we are honored to invite Assistant Professor Hsiao-Hui Liu, who will guide us in exploring how Thai Chinese reinterpreted their cultural identity through Thai translations of classical Chinese poetry, giving voice to themselves amid anti-Chinese movements, and showing how translation can serve as a bridge for cultural resistance.
Event Information
▸ Topic: When Poetry Becomes a Weapon: Translation and Resistance among Thai Chinese during the Anti-Chinese Movement
▸ Date: Friday, November 28, 2025, 12:10–13:40
▸ Venue: HSS Building 3, HC105 Guang-Fu Campus
