有鑑於語言學習除課堂之學習外，更須課後充分之自習與練習；本中心於民國88年於”浩然圖書資訊中心”地下一樓成立”語言中心附設自習中心”為全校師生打造舒適之語言學習環境!本中心總面積約610平方公尺，主要功能為提供本校師生於課後、午休或下班閒暇時間之語言自習與學習場所。中心之空間分為「閱覽區」、「視聽區」、「書報雜誌閱覽區」、「電腦室」及「英語諮詢室」五大區域，提供七國語言(英語、日語、法語、德語、西班牙語、韓語、及華語)學習教材(亦包含英、日語雜誌及英、日語測驗模擬題庫：TOEFL、GRE、GMAT、TOEIC、IELTS、全民英檢、日語測驗模擬題庫)、參考書籍及視聽媒體資料，其中以英、日語典藏為主，是一個完整的語言學習區域。106年9月起圖書館進行空間改造，原空間改為密集書庫，自習中心則搬遷至三樓，並延續本次圖書館改造工程之設計理念。
The Language Self-study Center belongs to the Language Teaching and Research Center (LTRC), which is located in the first basement of the National Chiao Tung University Library. It is about 610 square meters and it serves to offer faculty, staff, and students a place in which they can improve their language proficiency. This center is mainly divided into four sections: reading, audio-visual, computer, and writing. In these sections, learning materials, reference books, and interactive CD-ROMs of various languages (e.g., English, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, and Mandarin) are available for use by students.
In view of the need for students to learn systematically and to study individually, this self-study center provides professors as well as students with a natural and neat language learning environment with abundant resources, digitalized learning materials, and audio-visual equipment, in the hope that readers’ language learning motivation and efficacy will be boosted. Ever since the center was founded, not only VOD visual systems have been provided but also simulation tests of the four skills(listening, speaking, reading, and writing) have been offered to readers on the campus as well. Furthermore, we also provide English writing consultation to enhance students’ areas of expertise in terms of academic writing and technological thesis writing. Those aforementioned services and facilities are offered in the hope that students as well professors could have the best language learning environment while they are at their leisure.
